Industries Served
The KM4000 is widely used in the following industries:
• Construction
• Bridge Building & Repair
• Power Generation
• Shipbuilding
• Pulp & Paper
• Steel & Aluminum Processing
Typical Applications
• Machining keyways on tapered shafts
• Milling stress relief grooves in bridge decks
• Machining motor mounting slots in plates or I-beams
• Cutting inspection windows in vessels
• Machining keyways on motor shafts
Mounting Options
• Shaft End Mounting: Requires only 8.5 inches (215.9 mm) of shaft length with no obstructions, and only 10.5 inches (266.7 mm) with obstructions. (Note: The KM4000 can machine keyways within 2.2 inches (55.88 mm) of an obstruction.)
• Mid-Shaft Mounting: The machine can be leveled for machining long keyways.
• Tapered Shaft Mounting: Shims are used to adjust the clamping.
Setup and Operation
Install the end mill into the spindle of the KM4000 portable keyway milling machine, then mount the machine onto the shaft—operation is that simple. For straight shafts, an experienced operator can set up the machine and be ready to machine a new keyway in 15 minutes!
Shim adjustments for tapered shafts may take slightly longer.
The KM4000 features 2.0 inches (50.8 mm) of cross travel, enabling the use of smaller, more economical end mills to machine wide or long keyways. The graduated cross slide is positioned using a hand crank.
